Calcium Lactate Pentahydrate (L-Calcium Lactate) is a common food and feed additive, primarily used as an acidity regulator, stabilizer, emulsifier, nutritional fortifier (calcium source), etc. According to standards, its use must strictly comply with limit regulations to ensure food safety and animal nutritional balance.
Compliant Addition of Calcium Lactate Pentahydrate in Food
Calcium Lactate Pentahydrate in food is often “used in appropriate amounts as needed in production” (GMP principle), but specific categories have clear limits. Functions include acidity regulator, antioxidant, emulsifier, stabilizer, coagulant, thickener, and nutritional fortifier.
- Processed fruits: Used in appropriate amounts as needed in production
- Pickled vegetables: 10.0 g/kg
- Canned vegetables: 3.0 g/kg
- Candies (including gum-based candies, other candies): Used in appropriate amounts as needed in production
- Compound seasonings: 10.0 g/kg
- Solid beverages (protein solid beverages, instant coffee, tea solid beverages, etc.): 21.6 g/kg
- Jelly: 6.0 g/kg
- Puffed foods: 1.0 g/kg
Compliant Addition of Calcium Lactate Pentahydrate in Feed
Calcium Lactate Pentahydrate in feed is mainly used as a mineral element (calcium source) additive, with a calcium content of about 13% (dry basis), for strengthening calcium nutrition, regulating acidity, and improving feed quality. It is listed in the Feed Additive Catalog (2013), applicable to pet feeds such as dogs and cats, and also to livestock and poultry feeds. No specific maximum limit, but additions must be based on animal nutritional needs and overall calcium levels, complying with the Feed Additive Safety Use Specifications (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Announcement No. 1763, effective 2018). Recommended Addition Guidelines (based on 88% dry matter content, in % or g/kg)
- livestock: 0.6%~0.8% (calcium lactate addition approx. 4.6~6.2 g/kg for supplementation).
- Poultry: 0.8%~1.0% (addition approx. 6.2~7.7 g/kg).
- Pets (dogs/cats): 0.5%~1.0% (addition approx. 3.8~7.7 g/kg).
Maximum Limit: No single variety limit, but total calcium in complete mixed diets must not exceed 1.5% (to avoid mineral imbalances). Maximum limits include baseline values from feed ingredients.
